Özet:

This thesis examines the process of the return of the Crimean Tatars, which were exiled from Crimea by the Soviet Union in 1944, to Crimea. Dzhemilev, who is also a human rights defender, determined the vision of the Crimean Tatar National Movement. Therefore, this study examines the views and struggle of Dzhemilev, his relationship with human rights defenders and his effects on the national movement. In this study, the methods of struggle of Crimean Tatar National Movement led by Dzhemilev, its basic principles, its activities and the connections it has established with human rights defenders are examined. Contrary to the literature that human rights movements and nationalism are thought to be incompatible with each other, the struggle of the Crimean Tatar National Movement under the leadership of Dzhemilev was built on a combination of a human rights struggle and defense of democratic values and nationalism. Thus, in its efforts to return to Crimea, the Crimean Tatar National Movement benefited from global human rights norms and received international support. Dzhmeilev is of great importance in gaining this support. Thanks to this support, the Crimean Tatar National Movement led by Dzhemilev managed to return to Crimea in 1991.
